Vaccines and Vaccinations
Vaccinating your pet is one of the most important components of a good wellness care program. There are some vaccines, referred to as "core" vaccines that are recommended for all pets.
One of these core vaccines is Rabies. Rabies is an almost 100% fatal disease that is easily prevented by vaccination. The State of California requires that all pets be vaccinated against rabies.
DA2PP is a core vaccine for dogs, while FVRCP is a core vaccine for cats. These vaccines protect against some of the most common viral diseases that we see in pet dogs and cats. FeLV is a core vaccine for cats less than 18 months of age.
What about the non-core vaccines? These are the diseases where your pet's lifestyle becomes important.
Your pet's vaccination program is one of the most important wellness care decisions that his or her veterinarian will help you make. In most cases, she will make this decision based upon your pet's lifestyle.
